Why Is It Such a Pain to Find Decent Window Stuff Without Breaking the Bank?

I've been trying to spruce up my apartment lately—nothing fancy, just some little touches to make it feel more like home. And you know what's weirdly frustrating? Trying to find window accessories that don't cost an arm and a leg. Seriously, curtains, rods, blinds, tiebacks...why is everything either super cheap-looking plastic junk or ridiculously overpriced designer stuff? There's like no middle ground.

I spent hours yesterday scrolling through online stores, and it's either $5 flimsy curtain hooks that look like they'll snap if you breathe on them wrong, or $50 "artisan-crafted" tiebacks. I mean, come on, they're just tiebacks! I don't need them handwoven by monks in the Himalayas or whatever. Just something decent-looking that'll hold my curtains back without falling apart after two weeks.

And don't even get me started on curtain rods. Why does a simple metal rod cost so much? It's literally just a metal stick with brackets. But nope, apparently that's worth $40 minimum. And if you want something that doesn't look like it belongs in a dorm room, you're looking at double that.

Am I just looking in the wrong places or is this a universal struggle? Maybe I'm being picky, but it feels like there should be more options out there that are affordable but still decent quality. I'm not asking for luxury here, just something that won't embarrass me when friends come over.

Anyone else dealing with this nonsense or found a hidden gem somewhere?

I feel your pain on curtain rods...spent forever hunting down something sturdy yet affordable. Ended up thrifting some older metal ones—surprisingly solid. Ever considered second-hand shops or local buy-nothing groups for window stuff? Might find something decent without the markup.
