Turns out, leaving the blinds halfway open so the glass heats unevenly is a real no-no. Now I just keep them fully open or fully closed, nothing in between. It’s helped so far, but I wonder if anyone’s tried those window films or something else that actually works?

I tried one on a small chip in my car window and it looked okay from a distance, but up close… yeah, you could still see the scar. Anyone ever gotten a “good as new” result? I’ve watched a few YouTube vids but they all make it look way easier than I’m guessing it really is. My house is from the 60s, so the windows aren’t exactly modern, and I’m not sure if there’s some trick to getting the old putty out without wrecking the frame. Any tools or tips you’d recommend—or stuff you wish you’d known before starting?

Had some windows replaced about six months ago, and just noticed these super thin, almost hairline cracks running from the corners on two panes. They're not the big dramatic kind, just little lines you can barely feel with a fingernail. The installer said it’s probably “thermal stress” or something, but I’m not sure if that’s just code for “not our problem.” House is only 12 years old and I don’t live anywhere crazy cold or hot—just regular Midwest weather.

Is this something that happens with modern windows? Or did I just get a bad batch? Not really looking forward to dealing with warranty stuff unless it’s actually a big deal. Anyone else ever have this happen so soon after installation?

Gave one of those resin kits a try, and honestly, I can barely see the crack anymore unless I’m really looking for it. Then I grab a broom and dustpan for the big shards, and use duct tape or a damp paper towel to pick up the tiny bits. I usually lay down an old towel too, just in case anything rolls away.
