Seriously, I can’t believe how much warmer my living room feels after tackling those tiny cracks around the window frames. Used some weatherstripping and a bit of clear caulk (not the prettiest job, but hey, it works). My heating bill actually dropped last month, which was a nice surprise. Anyone else get that satisfying “aha!” moment after fixing drafts? Curious what tricks worked best for you—tape, foam, or something fancier?

Caught a segment last night about sneaky cold drafts around windows and, honestly, it was kind of eye-opening. They showed how even new-ish windows can let in a surprising amount of cold air if the seals aren’t perfect. The reporter did this thing where she held up a candle next to the window frame and the flame flickered like crazy—guess that’s a dead giveaway for a leak. I always thought you had to basically feel the wind blowing in to have a problem, but apparently, it’s way more subtle sometimes.

They also mentioned some gadget you can buy that measures temperature differences, but I’m not sure I want to shell out for something I’ll use once a year. Has anyone tried that candle trick, or maybe the old tissue test (taping a bit of tissue and seeing if it moves)? I’m starting to wonder if I should go around my place and try it out, but part of me is like, what if I find leaks everywhere? That’s just another project to add to my list…

Is it actually worth sealing up every tiny draft, or do you just tackle the obvious ones? Would love to hear if anyone’s found a method that’s simple but actually works, or if you just sort of live with a little draftiness in winter.

I swear, every winter I feel like my wallet’s just leaking cash because of all these stupid cold spots in my house. Tried the candle trick, tried weatherstripping—heck, even bought one of those infrared thermometers off Amazon (which, by the way, is only slightly more accurate than my dog at sniffing out leaks). Finally caved and called in a “leak detection specialist,” but it cost a small fortune and they still missed a spot behind the washer.

Is it just me, or do these services never quite catch everything? Or maybe my house is just cursed with invisible holes. Anyone else feel like you’re playing whack-a-mole with drafts and air leaks, even after paying the pros?
