Anyone else notice their vinyl window frames losing color?

Had the same issue with mine after about 5-6 years. Pretty sure it's just the sun doing its thing - UV rays can really beat up vinyl frames over time. I remember when we first got ours installed, they looked super sharp and bright white... fast forward a few summers, and they started looking kinda sad and yellowish on the sunny side of the house.

I did some digging back then and found out it's pretty common, especially if your windows face south or west (mine do). You could try cleaning them with a vinyl-safe cleaner; sometimes dirt buildup makes the fading look worse than it actually is. But honestly, once they've faded, there's not much you can do to fully restore them without painting or replacing.

Speaking of painting - anyone here ever tried repainting vinyl window frames? I've heard mixed things about how well paint sticks to vinyl long-term...

Before trying to repaint those faded frames, I’d check the window manufacturer’s care and warranty guidance. Some specifically prohibit abrasive cleaners, solvents, or certain coatings, and using them could damage the vinyl or complicate a warranty claim. A mild vinyl-safe cleaner is usually the safer first test, preferably on a small hidden area. If painting is allowed, the manufacturer may also specify the compatible paint type and colors, since dark colors can heat up and cause vinyl to warp.

I’d qualify the idea that fading is merely cosmetic. If the discoloration is uneven, especially on the sunny side, check for softening, bowing, or hairline cracks around the frame and sash. Those can point to heat-related damage rather than simple UV fading, and repainting could hide the problem or add heat if a dark color is used. In that situation, I’d have the manufacturer or a window professional inspect it before applying any coating.
