Thinking about upgrading to smart windows—anyone tried View vs SageGlass?

Yeah, totally get what you mean about glitches piling up—I swear, my house is basically a collection of "small fixes" waiting to happen. 😂 But back to smart windows, have you looked into the responsiveness differences between View and SageGlass? I've heard View has a pretty intuitive system, but some folks mentioned SageGlass might handle glare control a bit better...anyone know if that's true? Also curious if installation complexity varies much between the two brands—sometimes tech that seems simple can turn into a weekend-long DIY project (been there, done that). Would love to hear if customer support for either brand actually helps with troubleshooting or just points you to an FAQ page.

Haha, seriously relatable. Quick note on installation—both View and SageGlass typically need professional setup, not exactly weekend-friendly DIY. SageGlass does edge out slightly on glare control, though, from my experience. Customer support...well, both hit-or-miss tbh.

Haha, totally agree on the DIY front—my "quick" smart thermostat install turned into a two-day saga. Good to know about SageGlass glare control though...might be worth the extra hassle of pro installation if it saves me from squinting at my laptop all afternoon.

I've been eyeing SageGlass too, but I'm still skeptical about the actual energy savings vs. upfront costs. Anyone have real-world numbers on their electric bills after installing smart windows? Curious if it's really worth the investment...

Honestly, I've looked into smart windows myself but ended up just upgrading insulation and installing thermal curtains instead. Saw immediate savings without the huge upfront investment... might be worth exploring before diving into SageGlass.

That's a really good point. I was tempted by smart windows too, but honestly, after upgrading our attic insulation and adding some decent thermal curtains, the difference was pretty noticeable right away. Plus, it didn't break the bank. Smart windows seem cool, but sometimes simpler solutions do the trick just fine. Maybe down the road when prices drop a bit... who knows?

I've been curious about smart windows too, but honestly, I'm still skeptical about their long-term reliability. Anyone know how these things hold up after, say, 5 or 10 years of use? I'd hate to invest and then face expensive repairs later...

Fair point—I've installed a few smart windows (mostly SageGlass) for clients about 6-7 years back, and honestly, they've held up pretty well so far. But like anything techy, I'd budget a bit extra for potential hiccups down the road...just in case.

I've done a couple installs myself—one View and one SageGlass. Honestly, both have been pretty solid, but I did run into a minor issue with the View window about two years in. It wasn't anything major, just a sensor glitch that needed recalibration. Luckily, their support was responsive and walked me through it over the phone, so no big deal.

But yeah, like others said, it's smart to keep a little extra cash aside for unexpected stuff. Tech is tech, after all...things happen. If you're handy at all, though, most minor issues are pretty manageable DIY-wise. Just make sure you know what you're comfortable tackling yourself and when it's better to call in the pros.

Yeah, that's pretty much my mantra whenever I consider upgrading anything around the house. I've been eyeing smart windows myself, but I'm still on the fence. Sensor glitches sound minor enough, but it makes me wonder—how often do these little hiccups pop up over the long haul? And are they always that easy to fix?

I mean, recalibrating a sensor over the phone sounds doable, but what about firmware updates or connectivity issues? I'm decent with DIY stuff, but if it involves messing around with software or apps, I usually end up more frustrated than I'd like to admit. 😂

Also curious—did you notice any real difference between View and SageGlass in terms of how well they handle glare or heat? Or is it mostly just aesthetics and brand preference at this point?
