Been thinking about upgrading my windows to something smarter, you know, to automate privacy and lighting. Torn between motorized blinds and smart glass. Anyone tried either? Curious which you'd recommend and why.
Motorized blinds seem cool, but honestly, have you considered privacy film? Way cheaper, easy DIY install, and zero moving parts to break down. Had mine up for years now... still works great.
Privacy film is definitely underrated. I put some up in our bathroom window about five years ago thinking it'd be temporary until we figured out something "fancier." Well, guess what's still there? Yep, that same privacy film, still going strong. Honestly, I forgot it was even there until this thread reminded me.
Motorized blinds do have that cool factor, though—especially if you're into the whole smart home thing. But you're right about the moving parts. My buddy installed some motorized blinds last year, and he's already had to replace one motor. Not a huge deal, but still a hassle.
Smart glass seems neat too, but the price tag makes my wallet cry a little. Privacy film might not win any tech awards, but it's cheap, reliable, and does exactly what it promises. Sometimes simple really is best...
