ANYONE DEAL WITH SIMONTON WARRANTY LATELY?

Had to file a claim for a fogged window on my Simonton replacements (house is about 12 years old now). Honestly, the process was... kind of a mixed bag. Took a while to get a response, and I had to dig up paperwork I barely remembered keeping. They did eventually send out the replacement sash, but it wasn’t exactly quick. Curious if others found it slow, or maybe I just caught them at a bad time? Did folks have to pay shipping or anything weird?

Had a similar experience last year - my window seal failed and it took what felt like ages to get any traction with Simonton. I had to send them photos, dig up the original invoice (which was buried in a moving box from 2011...), and then wait another couple weeks for an update. They did cover the part, but I was surprised they charged me for shipping. Not a dealbreaker, but it would've been nice if that was covered too. Honestly, I expected a smoother ride given all their warranty hype. Maybe it's just how these big companies roll?

That’s frustrating about the shipping charge - I ran into the same thing with a patio door glass pack a couple years ago. Here’s what helped speed things up for me, in case it helps someone else down the line:

1. I made a folder on my phone just for window docs - photos of the label, the original invoice (once I finally found it), and all the emails. That way, when they asked for more info, I could just pull it up and send it right away.
2. If you’re missing paperwork, sometimes the installer or retailer can look up your order history. I called mine and they actually had a copy from 2012.
3. For shipping, I asked if there was any way to waive the fee since it was a warranty issue - no luck, but they did expedite it for free. Worth asking, at least.

It’s not the smoothest process, but I guess that’s the tradeoff with these big manufacturers. Still, if it keeps the windows efficient, I’ll jump through a few hoops... just wish it was a little less of an obstacle course.

That’s pretty much spot-on - jumping through hoops is right. I’ve had to dig up paperwork from two houses ago, and it always feels like a scavenger hunt. Still, when you finally get the replacement glass and your energy bill drops a bit, it’s hard to argue with the end result. Just wish these companies would streamline things...

Yeah, that “scavenger hunt” feeling is all too familiar - I've had to dig through old file boxes more than once for warranty stuff. One time, I even found an expired pizza coupon before I found the Simonton paperwork. In my experience, the shipping has been hit or miss. Sometimes they cover it, sometimes there’s a small charge tacked on. The actual replacement parts are usually decent, but man, the waiting game can test your patience. It does feel like the process could be a lot smoother these days, especially given how much paperwork gets lost over the years.

That’s pretty much been my experience too. I swear, every time I need a warranty thing, it’s like a trip down memory lane through every random receipt and manual I’ve ever kept. Last time, I ended up calling because I just couldn’t dig up the paperwork, and they still made me jump through some hoops. The parts themselves have held up alright once they finally arrived, but yeah - waiting weeks isn’t ideal. You’d think with everything being digital now, it’d be quicker... but nope.

- Gotta say, I’ve had a different run with Simonton.
- Yeah,

“waiting weeks isn’t ideal”
, but last time I filed a claim, they actually found my info from the serial sticker on the window - didn’t even need the original paperwork.
- Still took a few emails back and forth, but it sped things up compared to digging through old boxes.
- Not perfect, but if you’ve got that sticker, it might save some headache.
- Still wish parts didn’t take forever to show up...

That serial sticker thing is a good tip - I didn’t even realize those numbers were useful until I started poking around online. I’m still waiting on my first warranty claim with Simonton, and I’ll be honest, I was kind of dreading having to find the original paperwork (which, let’s be real, is probably buried under a pile of takeout menus somewhere). Did they ask you for photos of the issue too, or just the serial? Hoping this doesn’t turn into a months-long saga...

Yeah, they wanted both from me - serial sticker and a couple pics of the problem window. Honestly, paperwork never mattered as much as that sticker. Still took about a month to get a replacement sash, but at least I didn’t have to dig through old receipts...

That’s pretty much been my experience too. The serial sticker is what they really care about - Simonton’s whole system seems to revolve around that. I’ve had clients lose the sticker and then it’s almost impossible to get anywhere with warranty claims, even if you’ve got receipts or original paperwork. They’ll sometimes accept invoices from the installer, but it’s a toss-up.

Photos are always part of it now, at least in the last couple years. They want to see the actual damage or defect. I get why, but it can be a pain if you’re trying to help a client who isn’t tech-savvy or the window’s up on a second story. I usually just take the photos myself when I’m on site - makes things smoother.

The month-long wait for a replacement sash sounds about right. I’ve seen it go longer, especially during supply chain slowdowns. One time last winter, it dragged out to almost two months because the part was backordered. Clients weren’t thrilled, but there’s not much you can do once it’s in Simonton’s hands.

If anyone’s reading this and dealing with a similar situation, my advice is: don’t bother hunting for old receipts unless you’ve lost the sticker. Get clear photos (close-up of the issue and a wide shot showing the whole window), and make sure the serial is legible. That usually keeps things moving.

One thing I’ll add - sometimes Simonton will send a tech out if the issue isn’t clear from photos, but that’s rare. Most of the time, it’s just a waiting game after you submit everything. If you’re replacing more than one sash, make sure you send serials for each window. Learned that the hard way once...

Anyway, the process isn’t perfect, but at least you don’t have to deal with mountains of paperwork like some other brands.
