Just found out that window replacement quotes can vary by hundreds or even thousands of dollars for basically the same thing. Apparently some companies bank on people not shopping around. Anyone else noticed this or got a story about crazy window quotes?

Yeah, I've seen this happen a lot. A couple years back, I was helping my parents replace their old windows, and the first quote we got was honestly shocking—almost double what we ended up paying. The sales guy tried to justify it with some vague talk about "premium materials" and "exclusive installation methods," but when I pressed him for specifics, he couldn't really explain what made his windows worth that much more.

We ended up getting three more quotes, and the differences were wild. One company quoted us a price that seemed suspiciously low (and their reviews weren't great), another was still high but at least reasonable, and the last one hit that sweet spot—good quality windows, clear explanations about materials and warranty, and a fair price.

It's definitely worth taking the extra time to shop around. Some companies count on people being overwhelmed or impatient and just going with the first quote they get. Glad you caught onto it early... your wallet will thank you later.

Yeah, learned that lesson the hard way myself. When we redid our kitchen, the first cabinet quote was insane—like, "are these cabinets gold-plated?" insane. Took a step back, got a few more estimates, and ended up saving a ton without sacrificing quality. Definitely pays to slow down and do your homework... glad you dodged that bullet early on.
