I think we've covered almost everything 😅. My two cents: trust the process and don't cut corners on quality. Windows are a long-term investment in Florida, and you'll live with the results for decades. All these lessons here point to doing it right the first time.

With hurricane season coming every year, I sleep a lot better knowing my house is ready. Can't put a price on that peace of mind. My advice to others: take the plunge, you'll be glad.

One more tiny detail: consider window locks and child safety. Our new windows came with vent latches that let you keep the window slightly open but locked – handy when we want just a bit of air at night without leaving it wide open.

I'd add: schedule your project when you can be home and not stressed. I took two days off work for the install and inspection day. Being present meant I could answer any questions the crew had and watch the progress (fascinating, actually). Less stress than trying to juggle work and window guys.

For anyone reading this long thread, the big takeaway is do it right or don't do it at all. I'm so grateful to everyone here for sharing the do's and don'ts. I went from clueless to feeling like an informed consumer. Can't wait to enjoy my new windows with no surprises.

Agreed @science536, the collective knowledge here saved me from a lot of potential mistakes. By the time I talked to window companies, I felt like I knew exactly what I wanted and what to watch out for (thanks to you fine folks).

If anyone is still hesitant: I have yet to meet someone who upgraded their windows and regretted it. It's one of those improvements you feel every day. Just make sure to pick the right people to do it.

I'm bookmarking a lot of individual tips from this thread (permit, insurance, HOA, etc.) in a doc so I don't forget any when my time comes. There's a wealth of local-specific info here you just can't get from a generic article.

I stumbled on this forum by accident while googling window companies. Best accident ever. 😄 Thanks to everyone sharing real-world insights. Beats any sales brochure.

I'm late here but I'll drop my experience: replaced 10 windows in 2022, used a well-known local company (rhymes with Baroly 😉). Everything went smoothly. Permit passed first try, and the inspector even said "these guys always do it right." That felt good to hear.
