I get what you’re saying about lighting making the biggest difference, but I actually had the opposite experience with curtains. In my north-facing room, I switched from sheers to heavier linen panels (sort of oatmeal colored), and it made the green tint way less noticeable in the daytime. The room felt warmer, not so washed out. Maybe it depends on how much natural light you get or the thickness of the fabric? I do agree—repainting is a hassle unless you’re already planning to redecorate.
Funny, I had a similar thing happen in my old place—north-facing living room and those energy-efficient windows that everyone swore would be a game changer. I noticed right away that weird greenish cast, especially on overcast days. For a while, I tried rearranging lamps and even swapped out some lightbulbs, but it didn’t do much. Ended up with heavier drapes too (mine are kind of a dusty blue), and it definitely toned down the green. Maybe it’s something about how thicker fabric diffuses the light? Or maybe it just covers up the problem altogether.
I always wonder if the tint is more noticeable depending on wall color or furniture. My walls are a pale gray, which I thought would be neutral enough, but sometimes they look almost sickly under certain light. Drives me nuts when you spend all weekend painting and then the sun comes out and everything looks different than you planned.
I’ve also heard some folks say switching to warmer LED bulbs can help balance out that cool tint from the windows. Haven’t tried that myself yet—anyone have luck with it? I’m always hesitant to mess with lighting since my house is already full of random lamp styles from over the years.
Curious if anyone’s had luck with those window films or if they just make things worse. At this point, I’m half convinced there’s no perfect fix besides tearing everything out and starting over... which obviously isn’t happening anytime soon.
