Freshening up the outside look of vinyl windows

That's actually pretty clever - I hadn't thought about painting vinyl windows before. Did you have to do any special prep work beforehand, like sanding or priming? I've heard mixed things about how well paint sticks to vinyl in the long run. Also wondering if darker colors might absorb more heat and cause issues down the road...any thoughts on that? Either way, sounds like a great weekend project, might have to give it a try myself sometime.

The slate gray is the part I’d be cautious about. “Vinyl-safe” paint doesn’t necessarily mean every dark color is approved for every window; check the window maker’s guidance for exterior colors. Dark finishes can heat the frame more, and a color outside the maker’s limits may lead to distortion. That’s worth checking before choosing a shade.

On the sanding and priming question, I wouldn’t treat “vinyl-safe” as a complete prep guide. The paint maker’s instructions for that specific product should say how to clean the vinyl and whether a bonding primer is needed. Sand only if those instructions allow it; the right prep depends on the coating system, and sanding isn’t automatically helpful.
