I've been updating my place bit by bit, and right now I'm stuck on windows. I wanted a clean, modern finish without it looking too cold or sterile, you know? Here's what I've done so far:

1. Sanded down the frames and applied a matte black paint—looks pretty sharp.
2. Added thin wooden trim around the edges for contrast (oak, lightly stained).
3. Used minimalistic roller shades instead of curtains.

It looks decent, but I'm wondering if there's something cooler or smarter out there I haven't thought of yet. Anyone tried something different that worked well?

That oak trim sounds like a great touch. I did something similar a while back, but instead of roller shades, I went with cellular shades—they have this subtle texture that softens the look without losing that clean feel. Plus, they're pretty good at insulating. Might be worth checking out if you're open to tweaking things a bit more... But honestly, sounds like you're already on the right track.

The oak trim does sound pretty nice, especially if you're going for that modern-but-warm vibe. I've been thinking about doing something similar myself, but I'm still debating between wood and metal trim—metal seems sleek, but maybe too cold? Cellular shades sound interesting too... hadn't really considered insulation before. Now you've got me wondering if I should prioritize looks or practicality—or can you really get both? Anyway, your setup sounds solid; good to hear it's working out.

You definitely can get both, but it takes a bit of planning. Cellular shades are great for insulation without sacrificing style, especially if you choose a clean, minimal design. Metal trim can look amazing too, but you're right—it can feel a bit stark unless balanced with warmer elements elsewhere in the room. Mixing materials usually helps soften that coldness...

Cellular shades are a solid suggestion, especially if insulation matters. Have you considered frosted film for privacy without losing natural light? It's subtle and modern, but doesn't feel clinical. Might complement your matte frames nicely.

Cellular shades do check a lot of boxes, especially for insulation and clean lines. Frosted film can be good too, but keep in mind it doesn't offer much flexibility—once it's up, it's up. Another alternative could be roller shades with a sheer fabric. They diffuse sunlight nicely, giving you privacy without totally blocking the view. Plus, they're pretty low-profile, so they'd pair well with your matte frames without overwhelming the window space.

Cellular shades are solid for insulation, no doubt, but roller shades with sheer fabric...I'm a bit skeptical about privacy at night. Still, your point about pairing nicely with matte frames is spot-on. Worth considering if daytime privacy is your main concern.
