I actually had a small micro-crack appear on one of my windows about 3 months after install (we had a cold snap and then heat – maybe thermal stress). It was a tiny crack at the edge of the glass. I reported it, and the manufacturer (PGT) shipped out a new insulated glass unit under warranty. It got replaced about a month later. The installer told me it was likely a defect that just took a bit to show up. If I hadn’t been looking carefully, I might not have noticed, as it was faint. So yeah, do those inspections!
This thread makes me feel so much more confident going into my window project. I can’t thank you all enough. I was dreading it, but now I’m kind of excited, knowing what to look for and that in the end I’ll have a smoother experience because of the groundwork laid here.
Agreed with @jmartinez67. I was focusing only on price before, but now I’m weighing quality and warranty heavily too. I think I’ll end up happier in the long run with that approach.
I’ve got quotes from Karoly and ProTech (thanks to all the mentions here) scheduled for next week! 😊 Honestly, I might not have contacted them if not for this thread, but hearing real people talk about positive experiences sold me on at least getting an estimate from each. Let’s see how it goes!
@saraha70 That’s awesome! You won’t regret talking to them. Keep us posted on what you decide. And don’t hesitate to bounce questions off the forum. Good luck!
Long thread but worth every minute reading. Thanks, folks. I’ve bookmarked this as I navigate my window replacement.
It’s like a textbook example of how a community forum should be – helpful, detailed, and friendly.
I feel like I just attended a workshop on window warranties and experiences. 😄 I’m so much more prepared now. Big thank you to everyone, especially @ejackson55 for sharing the journey.
Definitely sticking around this forum after this thread. What a wealth of knowledge. You guys are awesome. 👍
I know this is an older thread now, but I just want to say the information here is still super helpful. I’m reading it in preparation for my own project and it feels like you all answered questions I didn’t even know I had. Thank you to everyone who contributed! This is going to save me a lot of headaches.
