Just had new windows put in and learned the hard way - always ask if they handle cleanup after. Mine didn't, and I spent hours picking up glass bits. Anyone else got tips or installer recs?

Man, that sounds rough... reminds me of when we had our bathroom redone. The contractor left behind a pile of broken tile shards hidden under a tarp in the yard. Took me forever to clean up, and I was finding bits months later whenever I mowed the lawn. Definitely learned to ask about cleanup upfront after that one.

Anyway, windows are tricky because a lot of installers seem to subcontract out the cleanup part or skip it entirely unless you specifically ask. We had decent luck with a local family-run place - nothing fancy, but they were upfront about what they did and didn't do. They even warned us ahead of time about dust and debris, which was refreshing honesty compared to some horror stories I've heard.

Hang in there, though - once the cleanup's done, you'll probably appreciate those new windows way more. At least that's how it went for us.

Yeah, cleanup after home projects can be a real headache, can't it? We had our windows replaced about two years ago, and honestly, I didn't even think to ask about cleanup beforehand. Big mistake. They did a decent job installing the windows themselves, but afterward, I found little bits of glass and wood splinters scattered around the flower beds and driveway for weeks. I swear every time I thought I'd gotten it all, another shard would pop up after a rainstorm or something.

Did you find that family-run place through recommendations or just stumbled across them? We ended up going with one of those bigger companies because they had a good deal going at the time, but looking back, I kinda wish we'd gone smaller and local. Maybe they'd have been more upfront about the mess factor.

Also curious - did you notice a big difference in noise reduction or energy efficiency after your new windows went in? For us, the biggest surprise was how much quieter our house got. We live near a busy street, and suddenly we weren't hearing every single car drive by anymore. Definitely made the cleanup hassle feel worth it in the end.

Anyway, lesson learned on my end too - next time I'll definitely be asking about cleanup upfront. Live and learn, right?

Definitely noticed both, but the energy savings stood out more for us. Our heating bills dropped noticeably that first winter... made the cleanup hassle feel totally worth it. Did yours help with energy costs too?
