WINDOW WOES: WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN A PINCH?

I totally relate to the “cringe” factor. First winter in my house, I tried that plastic window film stuff you shrink with a hairdryer - looked decent for about two days, then my cat decided it was a new toy and shredded one panel. Ended up taping a beach towel over the gap for like a month. Not exactly Pinterest-worthy, but hey, kept the draft out.

Heavy curtains are a solid move. I scored some at a thrift store that were technically way too long, so now they puddle on the floor like some kind of dramatic theater curtain situation. Makes the room feel a little fancier than it probably deserves. Also hides the fact I never fixed the peeling paint under the sill... priorities, right?

Honestly, I’ve learned to just embrace the “quirky” look during cold snaps. My neighbor swears by bubble wrap on the windows, which I thought was nuts until I tried it on one drafty bathroom window. It’s not pretty, but it works, and you get bonus points for popping bubbles when you’re bored.

Survival mode definitely wins out over style sometimes. Maybe one day I’ll get those custom-fit blinds or whatever, but for now, if it keeps the heat in and doesn’t scare the dog, it’s good enough for me.
