Okay, say you're redoing your window trim and you measure everything twice, but somehow it still ends up wonky. Um, hypothetically speaking, if someone (totally not me) kept messing this up, what would you tell them to do differently?

Haha, been there... more times than I'd like to admit. I swear, window trim has some kind of secret vendetta against DIYers. One thing I've learned (the hard way, obviously) is that walls and windows are rarely as straight or square as they look. Measuring twice is great, but sometimes you gotta measure differently—like checking diagonals or using a story stick instead of just relying on the tape measure.
Also, are you cutting all your pieces at once? I used to do that, thinking I was saving time, but then I'd end up with a pile of beautifully cut trim that didn't fit anywhere. Now I cut one piece at a time and dry-fit as I go. Takes longer, but fewer tears involved.
Anyone else ever feel personally victimized by their own measuring tape...?
