Just finished installing some new windows in the back room, and man, getting them level was trickier than I thought it'd be. Here's what worked for me: first, set the window in place and shimmed it from underneath to get roughly level. Then I used a spirit level on the sill and sides, adjusting shims bit by bit until everything lined up. Secured it temporarily, double-checked level again, then screwed it in permanently. Anyone got a simpler way or some handy tricks?

Honestly, I tried the shim-and-level dance myself last summer, and it drove me nuts. Maybe it's just me, but I found that relying too heavily on shims made things feel overly complicated. A buddy of mine suggested using adjustable window installation brackets instead. They're a bit pricier, but you can tweak the alignment with screws rather than constantly fiddling with shims. Saved me a ton of frustration and time.
Not knocking your methodβit clearly workedβbut if you're doing more windows down the line, brackets might be worth a shot. Just my two cents from a fellow homeowner who's still figuring things out...
