1. Measured the opening like five times—seriously, don’t trust the first measurement.
2. Dry fit the window before messing with caulk or shims.
3. Used flashing tape around the sill and sides, then set the window and checked for square (shims help here).
4. Screwed it in, but not too tight—learned that the hard way, cracked a frame once.
5. Finished with spray foam (low expansion) and sealed the outside with silicone.

Anyone have a trick for getting the trim back on without gaps? I always seem to mess that part up.

Measuring, prying, leveling... and then I had to run to the hardware store for shims I forgot. The second one was a bit faster, but still, I was wiped. Does it usually take people this long, or am I just slow? Curious if anyone else underestimated the time on their first go.

Wild, right? I always figured the glass was the weak spot, but nope—it's those little gaps around the edge. Anyone else surprised by this, or have tricks for getting a good seal without making a mess?

Just had some new windows delivered and now I'm kinda stressing about making sure they don't leak once they're in. My house is old (like 1950s, so nothing is square), and I remember my neighbor complaining about water seeping in around his frames last year. I want to avoid that whole mess if possible.

Do you guys have any tricks or products you swear by for sealing things up? I’ve heard mixed things about flashing tape vs. caulk, and someone mentioned expanding foam can actually make things worse if you overdo it. Is there a “right” order for layering stuff, or does it depend on the window type? Also, is it worth getting a pro for this part, or can a reasonably handy person pull it off?

Would love to hear what’s worked (or not worked) for folks, especially if you’ve got an older house like mine.
