Been thinking about sprucing up my windows and stumbled across window capping—basically wrapping your wooden window frames with aluminum to protect them from weather and rot. Seems straightforward enough, but then I saw some quotes from pros and thought, "um, maybe I can handle this myself?" Apparently, materials alone aren't too pricey, but the tools and learning curve might add up quick. Anyone here tried tackling this themselves? Curious if it's actually worth the savings or if it's one of those "wish I'd just hired someone" kinda projects...

Did my own window capping a couple years back—honestly, it's doable but trickier than it seems. Learning to bend aluminum neatly took some trial and error (and a few wasted pieces...). Saved money, sure, but factor in patience and frustration too.

I can relate to this completely. When I tackled window capping myself, I underestimated the precision required for clean bends. If you're considering DIY, I'd strongly recommend investing in a decent-quality aluminum brake—renting one is usually affordable and makes a noticeable difference. Also, practicing on scrap pieces first can save you from frustration and wasted materials. It's definitely doable, but patience and proper tools are key factors to weigh against the savings.
