Fog between the panes: can the sash stay?
When moisture is trapped between the panes, replacing the insulated glass unit may be possible without replacing the whole sash, but I’m not sure what makes that the practical choice.
What should a window professional assess to decide whether the glass unit can be replaced in the existing sash? I’d also want to know how the sash’s condition and availability of compatible parts affect the options, and whether either repair scope changes the existing warranty. Are there particular questions that help make sure the quote distinguishes glass-only work from sash replacement?

The glass being replaceable doesn’t necessarily mean the existing sash is a good candidate. The glazing pocket, retaining stops or beads, and sash corners need to be sound and able to hold the new unit securely. If they’re damaged or distorted, replacing the sash may be the more practical option, even when a compatible glass unit is available.
